Basil

This aromatic herb comes from the mint family (Lamiaceae) and is believed to have originated in India over 5,000 years ago- though ancient use of the herb has been found throughout the world. There are between 50 to 160 varieties of basil that vary in taste, shape, color, and smell.

Basil is rich in vitamin A, B6, C and K as well as minerals such as iron, manganese and magnesium.

Vertical Field cultivates the sweet basil variety, which in our urban farms matures in 21 days, and has a high biomass.

Blended up into a pesto or topped onto pasta, pizzas, and salads, basil adds a refreshing kick to many dishes.
